The St. Lucie County Fire District and the St. Lucie Firefighter’s Benevolent hosted the ‘Lil’Feet’ at Walmart in Ft. Pierce on Wednesday, July 31. 225 children from Boys & Girls Clubs, Healthy Start, Helping People Succeed, Loving Care and Peppermint Patti’s were given the opportunity to shop for new shoes. The ‘Lil’ Feet’ program began in 2009 when local firefighter Fred Barbera, responding to a call, noticed a child at a daycare with holes in his shoes. Later that day, he and another firefighter went out and bought shoes and socks for the child. Since then, ‘Lil’ Feet’ has provided thousands of pairs of shoes to children throughout St. Lucie County.
