Thanks to my neighbors
A big thank you to home owners in my neighborhood. Because so many of them are now leaving their outside lights on, we are now better lit than U.S 1.
Lights on outside make the neighbor hood safer. Maybe the city should look into LED bulbs.
Thanks to all my neighbors!
Stop breaking the law
For the person who wrote in the April 16 edition about Left-lane driving claiming their opinion was final.. NO, it isn't. It's actually the Law that is final! Who advises without knowing the truth? Only a ignorant, self-centered person would claim to be giving legal advise on something they know nothing about. Advising slow left lane drivers that it's legal to stay and not move over.. is not only lacking courtesy, but could get someone a healthy ticket or worse.
The Law for slow, left lane driving actually falls under 'Fl. Statute Section' 316.081(2), which reads in part, "On a road, street, or highway having two or more lanes allowing movement in the same direction, a driver may not continue to operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost left-hand lane if the driver knows that he or she is being overtaken in that lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed."
That means, if someone pulls up behind you, you must legally move to the right-hand lane. If someone is riding your tail, as you claim, it's because you are both inconsiderate and are breaking the law, so move over!
No cashiers, no service
I don't know about you, but I recently become an unpaid cashier!
Yes, so many department and grocery store chains, have gotten rid of their cashiers and they're letting customers like me do their work for them.
Of course this just might be a perk for seniors intended to help keep us fit by letting us do all the heavy lifting. What a great idea from these wonderful corporations!
I asked the manager at one of these stores why cashiers had suddenly made the endangered species list. She replied "well you could go and try to find one!" Wow, now they want us to go on a scavenger hunt to find a cashier and get us more physically fit and mentally sharp. And all the time I just thought it was to make more money for the corporation. Silly me.
I guess they just decided they didn't really need the "service" part in "customer service" anymore.
I hope you will let all these big chain stores know how much you appreciate them cashiering the cashiers who used to work there.
As for me, I'm off to find somewhere where shopping is still a pleasure.
Did we have to do that?
The other day I fell out of my bunk, rousted from sleep by word that NASA’s new darling, the ‘copter called Ingenuity, was out there on Mars flying pointlessly up a few meters and dropping back down.
Was exporting this annoying noise making device to another planet the highest and best use of tax money?
Please, NASA: no more helicopters on Mars!
Isn’t it funny how when you make a purchase via internet or phone, they charge your credit card in 60 – 90 milliseconds, but if you later request a refund for said purchase for whatever reason, it takes 60 – 90 days for that transaction to happen?
Enough is enough!
Here is my thought and observation, as a Healthcare worker.
If this "pandemic" is so life threatening, and we need to wear masks and social distance, then why are we allowed to fly in an air plane and sit less than 6 inches apart?
Prior to boarding, people stand in line, shoulder to shoulder. On the plane we stand in a line on and off.
Then at end of ride, the pilot says, Remember to keep social distancing.
Really?! Wake Up America! If this was truly a Pandemic, then this shouldn't be allowed.
Take off your masks and breathe some Free, Fresh air and say Enough is Enough!
The scientific view on masks
In response to “another view on masks”, wearing a mask DOES NOT result in a person breathing back in their own CO2.
Very few true medical professionals have said that it does.
Rand Paul is trained as an ophthalmologist, not a lung specialist.
To test, wear a mask and measure your O2 intake using an oximeter. You will see your O2 level is pretty much the same as when you don’t wear a mask.
Likewise, CO2 will freely diffuse through your mask as you breathe. I encourage all readers to research using google when they hear an opinion to get both sides of the story.
Don’t just listen to talking heads that have ulterior motives, and don’t take their words at face value.
Time to go mask-less
Irrespective of what governments, scientists and naysayers say, when Walmart, the largest employer in the US, and one of the largest worldwide, no longer requires you to wear a mask to enter their stores, we know that COVID is no longer a threat to the masses and it is once again safe to hug and kiss another human.
I hate to belabor the point, but many writers of left lane driving are cherry picking the law.
If, as unlikely as it seems, there are three vehicles doing the maximum speed limit three abreast and someone (other than law enforcement or emergency) late for their bingo game is tailgating the driver in the left lane in an effort to intimidate them to get out of the way, then the person trying to pass is probably in violation of two Florida laws (316.182(2) and 316.0895).
Common courtesy and sense dictates that one should not occupy the left lane for extended periods of time except to pass, but there is no law against it.
