VERO BEACH — The city of Vero Beach and several Indian River County nonprofits have begun confirming summer camp plans. A few that are now open for registrations are featured here, with more expected to be announced in coming weeks.

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will offer summer camps at Leisure Square Fitness Center for children 6-12 years old. Two camps will be offered: Sports/Aquatics Camp and Aerial Antics Camp. Both camps will run nine one-week sessions from June 7-Aug. 6.

The Sports/Aquatics Camp is a full-day summer program with a chance to play favorite sports all at one camp. The emphasis is on a variety of sports and recreational activities including volleyball, tennis, kickball, football, and basketball.

The Aerial Antics Youth Circus will be held Aug. 5, 6, and 7. This summer camp is now in its 47th year, training boys and girls ages 6-12 for a performance in the Aerial Antics Youth Circus at the end of the summer. Instruction areas include gymnastics, tumbling, circus aerial, and dance. Fun-filled camp activities include swimming, movies, arts and crafts, games, and off-site activities including bowling and skating.

Lunch is provided for the nine weeks of Aerial Antics and Sports/Aquatics Camp.

The camps at Leisure Square cost $95 per week for city residents, $130 per week for county residents.

Leisure Square Fitness Center is located at 3705 16th St., Vero Beach. For more information call (772) 770-6500 or visit www.covb.org/208/Camps.

The Riverside Dance Festival Student Workshops will be held July 26–Aug. 7.

The Riverside Dance Festival is a unique experience in intensive summer study presented by Riverside Theatre and Ballet Vero Beach. Accepted students will experience day-to-day life with dance professionals from New York City. Students will have the opportunity to take daily technique classes in ballet and contemporary dance. They will also participate in master classes, open rehearsals, and work towards the creation of their own work to be performed in a mixed repertory concert to culminate the festival.

All applications/auditions will be submitted digitally this season. For instructions on how to apply, visit www.riversidetheatre.com/riverside-dance-festival.

Riverside Theatre is located at 3250 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach.

The Environmental Learning Center offers nature-based summer camps on the ELC’s 64-acre Wabasso Island campus that include a variety of adventures in and around the Indian River Lagoon.

The Lagoon Island Adventure Summer Camp runs June 2-Aug. 6, for children entering 1st grade to entering 6th grade. Camps are kept small for a safe and individualized experience. Camps run 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., with aftercare available.

Explore the mangroves, observe wild gopher tortoises, and see who lives in the water. Take a pontoon ride and canoe along the Indian River Lagoon.

Some ELC camps cost $100 per week, others cost $200, with scholarships available for those who qualify. Check with the ELC for costs depending on which camp your child is interested in.

The ELC is continuing to implement COVID-19 precautions. As of now, though plans can change, each child is required to wear a mask and provide their own water, lunch, and snacks for the day. There will be no sharing of food or food provided by the ELC. Parents are required to wear a mask during the pick-up and drop-off process.

The ELC is located at 255 Live Oak Dr., Vero Beach, at the western base of the Wabasso Bridge on the 510 Causeway.
