VERO BEACH - The Public Works Department of Indian River County has been awarded a $432,783 Florida Department of Transportation Local Agency Program grant for the construction of an eight-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the east side of 43rd Ave. from Airport Dr. West, near the Vero Beach Regional Airport, to 41st St., just north of the Indian River County Jail, in Vero Beach.
According to a memo from Assistant Public Works Director James W. Ennis to County Administrator Jason Brown, the sidewalk improvements will be 0.85 miles long, and “the work will also include erosion control, maintenance of traffic, ditch grading, minor drainage piping with drainage structures, signing and pavement markings.”
The county Engineering Division estimates the total cost to be $487,176. According to the grant form, the county will contribute 11.165% of the cost, or $54,393.
The county intends to advertise the project in Jan., 2020. Under the state’s Local Agency Program agreement, the county agrees to complete the project by Dec. 31, 2021. If that schedule cannot be met, the county must notify the FDOT in writing with a revised schedule, or the project is subject to the withdrawal of funding.
The county’s share of $54,393 will come from its Secondary Roads Account.
