INDIAN RIVER SHORES - Indian River Shores Town Councilmember John McCord announced his resignation at the Aug. 26 council meeting. Mr. McCord resigned because he is moving to California.
Mr. McCord’s resignation took effect immediately after the first budget public hearing on Sept. 3rd.
Mr. McCord, a John’s Island resident since 1998, is the retired chairman of Alliance Energy Services. He also served on the Vero Beach Utilities Commission.
Pursuant to Article 2, Section 2-3 of the town charter, the remaining council members will select a replacement to hold that office until the seat held by him would have been subject to election had this vacancy not occurred.
Any person applying for and appointed to fill this vacancy must possess all the qualifications listed in the town charter for election to this office.
Town of Indian River Shores Charter, Article 6, Section 6-2 says that candidates for the office of town council member must be qualified electors of the town and must have resided within the town for one year immediately preceding the election in which they are candidates.
No member of the town council shall be eligible for reelection to the council who will have served eight or more consecutive years as a council member at the expiration of his then current term.
