SEBASTIAN - The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners has approved funding for repairs and improvements at the North County Aquatic Center in Sebastian.
At their Feb. 11 meeting, commissioners approved $49,875 to repair and update the scoreboard, and $65,730 to resurface the pool.
According to county staff, the existing scoreboard at the pool was installed in 2009 and is no longer fully operational or repairable. The upgrades will include new LEDs and video.
On behalf of the Recreation Division, bids were requested in December. While the documents were downloaded by six vendors, only Video Screen USA of New Port Richey submitted a bid, $49,875, just below the $50,000 the Recreation Department allocated for the project in the current budget. Staff recommended accepting that bid. The contract gives 90 days for the job to be completed.
Bids were also requested in December for the pool resurfacing. According to staff, the pool was built in 2002, last resurfaced in 2011, and is now showing pitting and cracking and needs resurfacing again.
The documents were downloaded by 12 vendors and three submitted bids.
Family Pools, Inc. of Port St. Lucie bid $65,730. Aquatic Surfaces of the Treasure Coast, Inc. in Stuart bid $73,775. Vermana, an Orlando company, bid $98,460.
The Recreation Division allocated $90,000 for the project in the current budget and recommended accepting the bid of $65,730 from Family Pools, Inc.
The resurfacing contract requires the work to be completed in 60 days.
