If the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast has its way, all of its adoptable shelter pets will be fostered into a loving home during the holidays as part of its annual “Home for the Holidays” program. The ultimate goal is to get them all adopted.

Individuals must complete the appropriate foster paperwork and requirements before taking a pet home.

Pickups will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, and continue until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23, at its shelter, 4100 S.W. Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City, or Stuart thrift stores, 2585 S.E. Federal Highway and 1099 N.W. 21st St.

The HSTC prefers that participants provide food bowls, bedding and toys for their foster pet but the shelter will assist if needed. Of the animals that were fostered during last year’s “Home for the Holidays” program, about two-thirds of them were adopted.

Those pets not adopted by their fosters or otherwise finding a forever home during the program will need to be returned to the shelter by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan 4.
