Romance

PJ Benjamin and his real-life wife Louisa Flaningam star in The Last Romance.

VERO BEACH - The Riverside Theatre has two great plays this week. Next to Normal is finishing its run on the Waxlax Stage, and The Last Romance starts Feb. 5 on the Stark Stage.

Next to Normal is the winner of three Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The contemporary musical tells the story of a seemingly normal suburban household whose lives are anything but normal due to Mom's mental illness. An emotionally powerful production, Next to Normal takes audiences into the hearts and minds of each character and presents one family's story with love, sympathy and compassion. Next to Normal ends its run Feb. 10.

The Last Romance, Feb. 5-24 on the Stark Stage, stars husband and wife team P.J. Benjamin and Louisa Flaningam as Ralph Bellini and Carol Reynolds, with Andrea Gallo as Rose Tagliatelle and Colten Blair as the Young Man.

P.J. Benjamin starred as the Wizard in 3,500 performances of the blockbuster Wicked, both on Broadway and on tour, and six years as Mr. Cellophane in Broadway’s hit musical Chicago. His television roles include “Madam Secretary,” “Law & Order SVU,” “The Good Wife,” and the voice of the Dodo birds in the film “Ice Age.”

Set in Hoboken, New Jersey, The Last Romance tells the story of an elderly widower. On an ordinary day in a routine life, Ralph decides to take a different path on his daily walk. Instantly smitten by an elegant, mature woman, Carol, he turns on the charm, hoping for a second chance at love. Defying Carol's reticence, Ralph embarks on a journey to regain the happiness that seemed all but lost. The Last Romance is a heart-warming comedy about finding love at any age.

The Last Romance performs February 5-24, 2019 on the Stark Stage at Riverside Theatre. Tickets start at $35. Tickets for Next to Normal through Feb. 10 start at $37.50. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at (772) 231-6990 or online at www.riversidetheatre.com.

Riverside Theatre is located at 3250 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach.
