VERO BEACH - If you want to take advantage of Riverside Theatre’s wildly popular children’s summer camps, now is the time to sign up. The more in demand camps tend to fill up very quickly.

Tuition scholarships are available to assist qualifying students. A few sessions require auditions, all require advance registration, all include light snacks.

The goal of the camps is to build confidence, empathy, and community, in a fun and nurturing environment, while cultivating the skills needed to act. Each camp will culminate in a performance for family and friends.

What follows is a general summary of the programs. Much more information about each is available at the Riverside Theatre website.

“Little Stars” Beginning Stages Summer Camps are recommended for ages 5-8 years, both beginners and experienced. Early drop-off at 9 a.m. is available for this camp only.

These performance-based camps cultivate skills in singing, acting, and movement. Theatre exercises, singing, and movement will be utilized to teach important performance skills. Themes change each week and include songs, dances, and storytelling.

“Little Stars” five sessions, all 10 a.m.-noon, are: June 3-7, Aladdin’s Magical Tales; June 10-14, Toy Story Adventures; June 17-21, Shrek, Donkey, & Princess Fiona’s Hysterical Quests; June 24-28, Dr. Seuss’s Favorite Stories; July 8-12, The Fantastic World of Ronald Dahl. Tuition is $120 per session/week, family showcases are on Fridays at 11:30 a.m.

“Rascals” Summer Camps, recommended for ages 5-8. Each camp will focus on classic songs from Broadway musicals. Both Rascal camps will perform together on the Stark Stage at the end of the week.

“Rascals” sessions are July 22-26, at 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on July 26. Tuition is $275 per session/week. Family showcases are Friday, July 26 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“Junior Rascals” Summer Camps are recommended for ages 9 and up. Each camp will focus on classic songs from Broadway musicals. Both camps will perform together on the Stark Stage at the end of the week.

The “Junior Rascals” session runs July 22-26, at 1-5 p.m. Tuition is $275 per session/week. Family showcases are on Friday July 26 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“Shrek The Musical, Jr.” is recommended for ages 8 and up. Presenting the full show in a staged performance with an emphasis on performances over major production elements.

“Shrek” requires auditions, held May 14 at 4 p.m. There is no cost to audition. Prepare 16 measures of an up-tempo musical theatre song. Camp week rehearsals June 3-22, Mon.-Fri., 1-5 p.m. Public performances June 21 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m., June 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuition is $400, charged only if casted.

“Matilda The Musical,” recommended for ages 8 and up. First Treasure Coast presentation of the full production of Matilda the Musical, based on the Roald Dahl book.

“Matilda” requires auditions, held May 16, at 4 p.m. There is no cost to audition. Prepare 16 measures of an up-tempo musical theatre song. Camp week rehearsals Mon.-Fri., June 24-28, 1-5 p.m.; July 8-12 1-5 p.m., July 15-19, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Public Performances July 19 and July 20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuition is $400, paid only if casted.

“RT Star’s Little Stars Revue” Summer Camp, recommended for ages 5-8 years. Singing-based performance camps centered around vocal skills. Using age-appropriate songs from the musical theatre and pop catalog, vocal and performance technique will be taught, as each camp learns songs to be performed at the end of the week as part of RT Star’s Back To School Party on Aug. 3. July 29-Aug. 3, Mon.-Fri. at 10 a.m.-noon. Tuition $100 per session/week.

“RT Star’s Junior Stars Revue” Summer Camp, recommended for ages 9–12 years. Singing-based performance camps centered around vocal skills. Vocal and performance technique will be taught as each camp learns songs to be performed at the end of the week as part of RT Star’s Back To School Party on Aug. 3. July 29-Aug. 3, Mon.-Fri., at 1-4 p.m. Tuition $100 per session/week.

“RT Star’s Teen Stars Revue” Summer Camp, recommended for ages 13 & up. Singing-based performance camps centered around vocal skills. Vocal and performance technique will be taught as each camp learns songs to be performed at the end of the week as part of RT Star’s Back To School Party on Aug. 3. July 29-Aug., Mon.-Fri., at 1-4 p.m. Tuition $100 per session/week.
