Dueling Banjos guitarist Ronny Cox

Ronny Cox, the “Dueling Banjos” guitar player from the film Deliverance, will perform with the Heather Pierson Trio Feb. 10 at the Heritage Center in Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH - In the famous film Deliverance, everybody remembers the banjo player who played one half of the chilling song Dueling Banjos. But the song also featured a guitar player. The actor/musician who played that part, Ronny Cox, will perform Feb. 10 at The Heritage Center in Vero Beach.

While the party is a private event, members of the public may attend through arrangement with Indian River Arts & Concerts (see contact info at end of this article).

In addition to that famous scene from Deliverance, Ronny Cox was in the cast of the TV show Nashville, and had film roles in Star Trek, Total Recall, and Robocop. Mr. Cox played Dr. John Gideon in St. Elsewhere’s final season.

Joining Mr. Cox will be the Heather Pierson Trio. Ms. Pierson plays acoustic jazz and blues with a trio that features Shawn Nadeau on upright bass and Davy Sturtevant on guitar, mandolin, dobro, fiddle and coronet.

At Mr. Cox’s request, the event will raise funds to support Alzheimer patients and families through the Senior Resource Association.

The Senior Resource Association provides services to support and advocate for independence and dignity of older adults in Indian River County. The SRA operates state-licensed adult day care facilities including specialization in care for Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Those attending the concert are asked to bring donations such as art supplies, unscented baby wipes, towels and wash cloths, hand sanitizer, Lysol spray, and Clorox wipes.

The concert takes place Sunday, Feb. 10, with social hour starting at 5:30 p.m. and concert at 6:15 p.m. A suggested donation of $23 is requested. Attendees are also invited to bring a beverage or finger food snack to share on the community buffet.

For information on attending this private event, contact Indian River Arts & Concerts, Cathy Woolsey, Producer, (772) 388-3488, tshirt214@aol.com, or visit www.IndianRiverArtsConcerts.com.

The Heritage Center is located at 14th Ave. & 21st St., Vero Beach.
