VERO BEACH ― The Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach continues its free outdoor concerts and ticketed indoor stand-up comedy this weekend.

The outdoor “live in the loop” concerts are the best pandemic-friendly bargain in town. Tickets are free, and the enforced social distancing in the seating area creates a feeling of safety and comfort.

For the indoor comedy shows, face masks are recommended regardless of vaccination status, but not required. Masks are available at the entrance. The number of tables and seats has been reduced, limiting shows to 50% attendance.

All seats for the 80-minute comedy shows are $20, plus a $2 processing fee. Food and drinks are for sale, but there is no minimum. Comedy shows are recommended for ages 18 and up.

On Oct. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the Comedy Zone headliner is Darren “DS” Sanders, a writer who turns life’s everyday simplicities into side-splitting comedy. Opening act Sheena Reagan is a Fort Myers native who has been gaining popularity on the comedy scene with her high energy and creative style.

Arrive early for free live music on the outdoor stage before the comedy show begins. Bands play three sets rain or shine from 5:45-6:45 p.m., 7-8 p.m., and 8:15-9 p.m.

On Fri., Oct. 8, the band is Souljam, a five-piece jam band playing originals and covers from The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, Phish, and the Grateful Dead.

Souljam used the pandemic downtime to record their second album, “Travelin’ On”. Longtime fans will recognize most of the songs on the new album from live shows. Let Me Be, Lizards, Ain’t Dead Yet, Power, Leap, Never Knew Before, and Good Time all grew from live jams.

On Sat., Oct. 9, the Vero Beach-based Jacks Band plays danceable classic hits from Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Hall and Oates, The Temptations, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, The Kinks, and The Bee Gees.

Visit the website for free reservation passes for guaranteed seating at a table or lawn chair space, and arrive between 5:30-6:30 p.m. If an event is sold-out, unclaimed seats are released for walk-ups after 6:30 p.m.

Food and drinks are available at the lobby bar. Purchases are what keep the free concerts going, so don’t bring your own food or drinks.
