VERO BEACH - The next performance in Ballet Vero Beach’s season features the music of composer Paul Edward Gay and choreography by Ballet Master Camilo A. Rodriguez and Artistic Director Adam Schnell.
All three pieces on the program feature recordings of Mr. Gay’s music exclusive to Ballet Vero Beach.
The second program of the company’s seventh season builds on previous collaborations with Mr. Gay, a Vero Beach resident and classical trombonist who has performed with Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, the Boston Symphony, the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Brevard Symphony, and the New England Repertory Orchestra.
He has also conducted the New England Repertory Orchestra and the New Hampshire Philharmonic.
“Having collaborated with Mr. Gay twice before, Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to now be able to feature an entire evening of dance set to Gay’s astonishing works,” Mr. Schnell said.
Ballet Vero Beach will reprise two prior collaborations with Mr. Gay, and present a world premier of a brand new work.
“Composers Notebook: The Music of Paul Gay” on Feb. 28-29 at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center will open with Mr. Rodriguez’s “Divertissement Nostalgique,” which traces the history of the ballerina from the Romantic Era to the present using Mr. Gay’s “Beethoven Variants.”
Next is Mr. Schnell’s “In Which Cio-Cio San Goes With Pinkerton,” with music by Mr. Gay based on the Puccini opera “Madame Butterfly.” At the recommendation of Mr. Gay, Ballet Vero Beach commissioned a unique recording of the piece by Ukrainian pianist Artem Belogurov.
The program closes with a world premier of the first piece ever co-choreographed by Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Schnell, set to Mr. Gay’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano”.
Performances are Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
