STUART ― A testament to women’s strength and resiliency is on full display in the tender-hearted favorite “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling. The setting is Truvy’s Louisiana beauty salon where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Filled with hilarious repartee and humorously revealing verbal collisions, the ladies draw on their underlying strength—and love—to make them marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. The play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the women’s fortitude.

“Steel Magnolias” tugs at the heart while making us laugh. “It’s a true story based on the playwright’s diaries about the lives of his sister, his mother and his mother’s friends,” said Donna Amaru, director. “The characters in the play represent real people who portray the love, strength, camaraderie and empowerment of the sisterhood of women.”

This touching portrait and celebration of women’s strength will be on stage at A.C.T. January 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23. “Steel Magnolias” stars Megan Pollak, Hannah Greenlee, Colette Schweizer, Shauna Stone, Sherri Paradis and Joyce Milligan. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 3:00 p.m.
